Fairytale end for Kiss the Frog
THE long awaited Kiss the Frog Rugby day was an outstanding success last Saturday.
The fundraising event started with a kids coaching clinic which saw a large number of children put through their paces by Wallaby Luke Burgess and Waratah Chris Thompson, ably assisted by Australian Rugby Union coaching gurus Adam Crane and Mitchell Drinkwater.
This was followed by a sterling battle between a Scone side that included players from the senior and colts teams who played against the Quirindi side from the Central North Competition.
After 60 minutes of free flowing rugby, the final score was 31 to 17 in favour of Quirindi. The highlight of the game was an excellent try from Scone’s premier exponent of running rugby, Scott Shann which had Waratah coach Chris Hickey in raptures.
The main game between NSW Country and the Kiss the Frog invitational team had the large crowd in awe at the pace and intensity of the game.
Both sides threw the ball at every opportunity and defended with equal venom.
The skill level of both teams was extraordinary and the game showed the sport as it should be played.
The final score was 41 to 35 to the Kiss the Frog side.
The day was an outstanding success raising more than $50,000 and enabled the large crowd to celebrate a day of rugby and raise money and awareness for former Scone rugby player Josh Clift and the ongoing difficulties people with spinal injuries face.
