Bryan has now completed this incredible race. To read his blog, click here.
On Anzac Day, April 25, 2010 Bryan O'Hara will begin his quest to run 250km across the Kimberley's in Western Australia. In doing so he aims to raise AUS$20,000 for the Kiss the Frog Foundation.
This is a multistage race over one week with competitors carrying their full week's supply of equipment and food on their back. The race is broken down into 6 stages. The distance covered over the first four days will be roughly a marathon a day (42km) with the kicker coming on the fifth day with the double (around 80km). The sixth day will be a rest day if competitors manage to complete Stage 5 some time during the night. The seventh and final stage is a short 10km run to the finish line where hopefully ice cold beers and a shower for a good solid scrub will be available.
Temperatures in the Kimberley's in April / May reach up to 40 degrees Celsius. The race is run over the rugged and diverse terrain of the Australian outback which will require competitors to swim across gorges and hopefully avoid any cheeky crocs that might be lurking around looking to stir up any mischief.
Two hundred competitors from more than 30 countries will take part.
The race starts near Kununurra, meaning 'big water' in Aboriginal, and is the eastern gateway to the ancient landscape that is The Kimberley – one of the world’s last true wilderness areas.
Bryan is very excited to be able to use this opportunity to help raise money for Josh. Josh's determination and belief in himself in the long, hard road to recovery have been inspirational to Bryan and he believes we can all learn something from Josh's optimistic outlook on life despite the hand he has been dealt. A race like this is predominately about getting through the mental battle one day at a time. Bryan says Josh's courage in setting about realising his dream of walking again will be his main motivation when things get tough.
Please DONATE HERE to support Bryan in his race and help raise needed funds to assist Josh in achieving his ambitious goal of one day living a normal life again
